Kathryn

Kathryn first learned of Music Together when searching for music classes to attend with her elder daughter, then thirteen months old. In the nearly seven years since, she has seen her two daughters explore and grow in their musicality, and has loved belonging to the wonderful musical community that Cynthia has created. Kathryn completed Music Together teacher training in August 2023, and apprentice-taught during the 2024 Winter and Spring sessions. She is thrilled to now be part of laugh&play Family Music as both a parent and a teacher!

Kathryn's love of music, especially singing, was fostered by her parents, who made music appreciation and classes integral parts of her childhood in New York City and Mendham, NJ. An active participant in her high school theater program, Kathryn won the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for her performance as "Anna Leonowens" in The King and I as a high school senior. She attended a music conservatory for her undergraduate studies, completing a Bachelors of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

Kathryn shifted her professional focus from music to healthcare following her graduation from Eastman. Inspired by her father, a physician, and several other family members, she pursued graduate training in applied psychology, first obtaining a Masters of Education degree (EdM) in counseling psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and subsequently completing a doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD) from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University.

Kathryn’s passion for working with children, particularly very young children, motivated her to focus her clinical training on work with families. The value Music Together places on music-making as a shared, exploratory and joy-filled experience between children and caregivers is one of the many aspects of the program that she finds so appealing. In addition to teaching Music Together, Kathryn works as a professional soloist and cantor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mendham. She has also been active in New Jersey community theater, notably with The Chester Theatre Group at the Black River Playhouse in Chester, NJ and at the Barn Theatre in Montville, NJ.
